Carbon neutrality for a more resilient Caribbean
INNOVATE is a local company based in Barbados that is committed to reducing the impacts of climate change in the Caribbean and region.
What We Do
INNOVATE aims to provide sustainable solutions to climate change challenges in the Caribbean by giving nature a financial value. Our approach involves guiding clients in lowering their carbon footprint and securing high quality carbon offsets, thus supporting the collective reduction of carbon emissions.
Why Is This Important?
Sustainability and carbon neutrality are critical to Small Island Development States (SIDS) in the Caribbean for several reasons:
Vulnerability to climate change: SIDS are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, including sea-level rise, more frequent and intense weather events, and ocean acidification. These impacts can have significant social, economic, and environmental consequences, and may threaten the very existence of some small island states.
Limited natural resources: SIDS often have limited natural resources, such as land, water, and energy. This makes them dependent on imports for many basic needs, including food and energy. Investing in sustainability and carbon offsets can help small island states to reduce their reliance on imports and build resilience to external shocks.
Tourism industry: Many SIDS rely heavily on tourism for their economy. Sustainable practices and carbon offsets can help to protect the natural resources and ecosystems that are critical to the tourism industry, while also reducing the industry's environmental impact.
Reputation and competitiveness: Finally, investing in sustainability and carbon offsets can improve the reputation and competitiveness of small island states. As consumers and investors become more environmentally conscious, businesses and countries that demonstrate a commitment to sustainability may be more attractive to these stakeholders.
